BJP tribal leader and four-time MLA Mohan Charan Majhi became the Chief Minister of Odisha on Wednesday after his swearing-in ceremony in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the state’s former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The mega event took place at 5 pm today at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida also took oath as the deputy chief ministers of Odisha.
Additionally, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Dr Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Suresh Pujari, Rabinarayan Naik, Nityananda Gond, and Krushna Chandra Patra were also sworn-in as ministers of the Mohan Majhi-led government.
Other chief ministers of BJP-ruled states including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand also attended the event.
Ending the 24 years of reign of the Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the BJP stormed to power in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, securing 78 of 147 seats. While the BJD got 51 seats, Congress secured 14. Whereas, CPI(M) managed only one seat and Independents got three.
